The 2011 Cannes jury, headed by one Robert DeNiro, has decided:
Palme d’Or: “The Tree of Life” (Terrence Malick)
Of all the films in this year’s competition I have seen, this one was definitely the… only one. Still, I’m excited it won the prize. Terrific movie!
“Bir Zamanlar Anadolu’da” (“Once Upon A Time In Anatolia”) (Nuri Bilge Ceylan)
“The Kid with a Bike” (Jean-Pierre & Luc Dardenne)
Best Director: Nicolas Winding Refn (“Drive“)
I’ve heard good things about this Ryan Gosling-starring car chase-action-thriller for a while, but the director prize makes it official: I need to see this movie. Fast!
Jury Prize: “Poliss” (Maïwenn)
Best Actor: Jean Dujardin (“The Artist“)
Brice de Nice himself! I’ll finally have to check out Michel Hazanavicius’ “OSS 117” films now.
Best Actress: Kirsten Dunst (“Melancholia“)
Maybe now I don’t have to feel guilty anymore for admiring Miss Dunst? Another movie I can’t wait to see.
Best Screenplay: Joseph Cedar (“Footnote“)
