You know I’m a stats nerd, and an Awards nerd, so I love figuring out things like ‘Which nominated actor is in the most nominated films this year?’ (Answer: Gary Oldman with three, followed by Clooney, Pitt, Davis, Plummer and Chastain with two each.)
Also I love to play the ‘Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon‘-game and all its variants.
So I tried to build a chain linking only movies that are nominated this year, without repeating titles or actors. For example, one possible chain looks like this:
“Beginners” with Christopher Plummer, who is in “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” with Robin Wright, who is in “Moneyball” with Philip Seymour Hoffman, who is in “The Ides of March” with Ryan Gosling, who is in “Drive” with Oscar Isaac, who is in “W.E.”
(6 titles, 5 actors.)
The longest chain I could come up with has 15 titles (and 14 actors). But before I share, why don’t you try your hand? IMDb’s list of nominees is a good start, tell us what you cane up with in the comments.
Update: justinpeck posted an impressive 18 title chain in the comments. Here’s what I had:
“Puss in Boots” with Zach Galifianakis, who is in “The Muppets” with Ken Joeng, who is in “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” with Kevin Dunn, who is in “Warrior” with Tom Hardy, who is in “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” with Benedict Cumberbatch, who is in “War Horse” with David Thewlis, who is in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” with Emma Watson, who is in “My Week with Marilyn” with Toby Jones, who is in “The Adventures of Tintin” with Daniel Craig who is in “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” with Robin Wright, who is in “Moneyball” with Brad Pitt, who is in “The Tree of Life” with Jessica Chastain, who is in “The Help” with Viola Davis, who is in “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” with John Goodman, who is in “The Artist.” (15 titles, 14 actors.)
