My favorite new thing I didn’t know existed but now can’t imagine ever living without is Anne Billson’s Cats on Film. If the title isn’t enough, maybe the tagline will convince you: Films with cats in them. I’m currently working my way through the archives, which go all the way back to 2010, with over a hundred posts of Billson sharing screen-grabs and funny, sharp writing to go with them. The tag cloud contains such gems as Catagonist, Catguffin, Catscallion and Catzilla, and, yes, of course she’s got “Re-Animator” covered. (via Stephanie Zacharek)
Dana Stevens interviewed filmmaker Joshua Oppenheimer at Columbia’s True/False Film Fest last week. His first documentary about the Indonesian killings of 1965-66, “The Act of Killing,” was a stunning, gut-wrenching experience, and his follow-up, “The Look of Silence,” is playing the festival circuit right now and will hopefully find its way to a wide release (or Netflix) soon.
